I am planning to plant flowers in my flower bed but the bed is infested with ants. What should I do first?

Kill the ants first; talk with a nursery in your area to find out what%26#039;s best for your situation.

Good luck!
I am planning to plant flowers in my flower bed but the bed is infested with ants. What should I do first?
Find the nest and squirt the kind of lighter fluid used in a zippo style lighter into the nest. Also, sprinkle nutmeg over the area. Ants detest it.
Reply:%26quot;What should I do first?%26quot;

Kill the ants.

Their little carcasses will add nutrients to the soil. Sorry, haddadoit. Lowe%26#039;s, Homey D, Wallyworld - garden department, many choices of insecticides.

Ants do harm plants: their tunnels aggrivate a number of situations.

Have fun playing in the dirt.
Reply:Contact Bayer Inc. on the internet....they make a lot of products to control insects, grubs, worms, etc....their products are sold at Home Depot and Lowe%26#039;s and Walmart.......describe your problem, as far as I know ants will not harm flowers....they wont eat them at least. Again the company is called Bayer....look them up on the Internet for pest control.....
Reply:Find their colony hole and sprinkle sevin powder around the area, they%26#039;ll be gone in a few days. Merry Christmas
Reply:You can purchase granulated pest control.

You sprinkle this all over the bed, and it will get rid of the ants.

If you have pets you will need to keep them away from this.
Reply:After you get rid of the ants, buy bags of a good type compost and fill you beds about six inches deep with the compost. Water well, when it gets close to spring add slow release fertilizer such as Osmocote to the compost. Follow the directions on the container. Water well, and then plant when it is time next spring/summer (USA). By then you will be completely rid of the ants.
Reply:Amdro ant bait will do if the ants are still actively moving around. They will take it down into colony for winter...and pretty much take care of your problem by spring. Otherwise you need to dig into main part of colony and pour in some ant killer mixed with water.yahoo finance

Amaryllis flower keeps falling down?

I love amaryllis bulbs but every time they get a certain height, they break and fall down. My latest one is ready to bloom and i just heard a pop and it was drooped over the side of the pot. I dont think the stem broke, just bent. Right now I have a avery unattractive contraption holding it up. It involves a coat hangar, pipe cleaners and a shoe lace. Is there a solution for this? Or at least a prettier way to hold it up. This way detracts too much from the beauty of the plant.
Amaryllis flower keeps falling down?
Sounds like you are growing these bulb flowering plants indoors and in a pot. If so, consider several things to a healthier amaryllis.....

Flowering bulbs originated in cold climate countries, European descent. Once exposed to warm conditions, soil, and light, it triggers the plant to grow rapidly.

Too rapid of a growth will result in plants that are anemic, or weak, and the stem has trouble supporting the weight of the flower which is usually quite heavy in relation to the size/density of the stem.

Potting a bulb, and growing it indoors, where it is warm, will result in rapid growth, and typically overdrying of the bulb.

Another factor, is that bulbs should be frozen for at least 1 week before planting. This inhibits the ability of the plant to %26quot;burst%26quot; out of the bulb, and forces it to slow down and gather a stronger bulb.

Try several things on your next potting adventure:

Freeze the bulb for one week before planting.

Plant in a pot where the top diameter of the pot is at least 4 times larger than that of the bulb.

Keep moist at all times! This aids in cooling the bulb, and slowing growth to a condition found outdoors.

Keep out of direct light for the first 2 weeks. Indirect light is good.
Reply:before it gets so tall, place 2 or 3 small dowel rods around it and use the shoestring or other dull string (not fishing line), tie the string to one of the dowel rods, wrap it around the plant stem, then around the other dowel rod, then repeat for the third dowel rod.

this is not the most attractive but will provide some much needed support.c++

Which flower do you think would be best for an American wedding?

I now these probably aren%26#039;t the correct names...

White Daisy

Pink Rose

Red Tulip

Red Blossom

Morning Glory

Or whatever else?
Which flower do you think would be best for an American wedding?
I think roses are classic, beautiful, and traditional for wedding flowers. I am assuming you are talking about the bride%26#039;s bouquet? You can%26#039;t go wrong with roses. A florist could tell you what other flowers go nicely with them.

Peonies are lovely. They%26#039;re soft and delicate, like a rose.

The white daisy is nice, too, but somehow I think of it as for a more informal wedding, or else in a mixed bouquet.

Tulips are showy, but they tend to %26quot;blow.%26quot; This means they are perky at first, then get wilty and droopy and sort of %26quot;fall over.%26quot; Maybe a few could be worked into a bridal bouquet, but I%26#039;d be reluctant to have just tulips in a bouquet.

I don%26#039;t know what you mean by %26quot;red blossoms.%26quot; Carnations are also frequently used in floral arrangements and bouquets. Carnations grow naturally in pink, red, white, and yellow, and can also be tinted any color you choose.

Your flowers do not necessarily have to %26quot;match%26quot; your wedding colors. They could complement each other. You would not, of course, want lipstick red dresses and pink flowers, but many colors look lovely together that do not match. If I were you, I would do a lot of online research and I would look at florists, fresh flowers, bridal magazines, etc. to get ideas. The season of the year when the wedding takes place, along with what flowers are available, are also determining factors.
Reply:i would go with the pink roses
Reply:It all depends on what your colors or themes are. Usually any colored rose is the normal flower to have at an American wedding. I also think daisys and tulips are popular. I wouldn%26#039;t go with the other two. Another popular flower is the calli lilly.
Reply:sounds like the roses are good idea go with red and pink and follow by yellow and blue with greenery all around the roses they will make a wonderful floral arragements
Reply:I like calla lillies!! They are elegant and beautiful. But if you want to have one picked from your list I would say.. pink rose or white daisy, depending on how formal your wedding is!!
Reply:The daisy, rose and whatever %26quot;red blossom%26quot; is will last longer than the Tulip or Morning Glory.

I like calla lilies with stargazer lilies and stephanotis,

sprays of delphiniums with something or other would be nice.

My Flower Horn is killing my Green Terror?

My tank is 30 gallon there is a pleco in the tank also. Originally the GT was the first in the tank. I put the FH in later. I have moved the rocks around a few times and he still keeps the GT at the top of the tank. There are lots of places to hide so that is not the issue. He doesn%26#039;t mess with the pleco. He%26#039;s just about torn through the GT%26#039;s side. They are just about the same size the GT might even be a bit larger.

I read that if you put multiple chiclids in the same tank they won%26#039;t be able to kill each other as easy. It kind of makes sense because that%26#039;s what the pet store does and they seem to be ok. Anybody able to give some advice for a successful aggressive tank?
My Flower Horn is killing my Green Terror?
Amy, cichlids are natural enemies - they see other cichlids as threat and competition and it is in their instinct to fight for their territory.

What you read is wrong. The pet store is able to do this by stocking too many fish in too small of an area - this works to keep the fish from establishing territory, but is not the right way for a fish keeper to keep them. The pet store sells fish, they don%26#039;t keep them - never use them as an example of keeping fish. Even if you choose to try and curb aggression this way, by %26#039;multiple%26#039; they mean several, not two. Even if you stick a dozen big cichlds in a little tank and manage to control aggression, that doesn%26#039;t mean the home being provided is a good one - these would be a bunch of cichlids living a life in the most unnatural setting possible for a fish - in a tank full of enemies. Perhaps the biggest shame for people who keep their cichlids like this is that they watch their cichlids all this time and never get to see the true beauty of the cichlids as they are when kept properly with a mate, as the only cichlids in the tank.

Then there is the fact that a 30 gallon is too small for either of these fish even if they are alone in the tank, and you are trying to squeeze two of them in there! I won%26#039;t even discuss the pleco. Even if you had a 75 gallon tank it wouldn%26#039;t work for long.

If you keep this up, the GT will probably kill the FH. If your FH surives long enough, he will take over the tank and kill the GT.

The responsible thing for you to do is take back all of your fish and do some research on what would be appropriate for the size of your tank, and if you choose cichlids, go with smaller ones and learn first how to stock them properly. Good luck.
Reply:The flowerhorn fish is territorial, thus naturally agressive, and being a hybreed therefore more aggressive. Most Flowerhorn hobbyists desist from keeping them with other fish, particularly cichlids because it would be considered a natural enemy and chased or attacked. I have seen Flowerhorns kill Oscar%26#039;s that are double their size. You wont be able to always keep an eye on your tank, and sometime or the other the Fh shall attack and injure or kill the Gt.

There is another process, which though is not a foolproof one, but also helps at times. Remove the flowerhorn from the main tank and place it into a quarentine tank for 72 hrs, then re-introduce it back to the main tank. This will make it the new comer, and would probably let the GT dominate the tank. This may also result in the Gt attacking the Fh for territory, but chances are still lower.
Reply:Despite the name, GreenTerrors are not that aggressive as you are seeing. He will need a new home fairly quickly or the FH will kill him. The best thing for an aggressive tank is plenty of fish to share the fighting, or a single fish.

Plase don%26#039;t use what the shop does as a gauge. Remember, it%26#039;s only temporary for them, they sell the fish before long.

MM
Reply:It depends on what type of flower horn you have but most have a resembles to the green terror. Which automatically makes him a target. Also cichlid fight for territory and food. So the Flower horn will chase away any type of fish it thinks might interfere with its food source. Now what I think might help is to introduce a third fish and make some caves and tunnels for them. I use PVC and it works great. I also have make rock formations on opposite ends of the tank and this usually works too. They each take a part and might just share the tank. I%26#039;ve seen flower horns get bullied by Oscars so they are not so tough.fitness

Can Flower horn Oscars and Red Devil fishes live together?

They can until they kill each other.

These fish get more aggressive as they age and mature. It will certainly work at first, but as they grow the aggression and territorial nature grows with them, and eventually you%26#039;ll have fights and issues, and if you don%26#039;t step in, stress of at least one fish (most likely the Oscar) that would ultimately lead to his demise. The number of people who have thrown various cichlids together and thought they beat the odds, only to find out later the hard way that this wasn%26#039;t so, is uncountable. I see new injured, sometimes half dead, cichlids being returned to the fish store (big als here takes back most fish) every time I go in there.

Cichlids are not friends - forcing them into the same tank is not natural and can be considered cruel. At best you can form a forced truce in which they %26#039;only sometimes fight%26#039;, but if you want to keep the fish properly, and see them at their best, they should be kept in species tanks - singly, or even better, in established mating pairs.
Can Flower horn Oscars and Red Devil fishes live together?
I have one of each, They do fight but they quit within seconds of starting but not all fish are the same just because i have them and they live kinda peaceful together does not mean all of them will,But you can try it and see.

Mine are both full grown i have had them since they where 1 inch long that was to 3 years ago.

Reply:Definitely a flower with thorns! Beauty is appreciated more when it is contrast with something which is not so beautiful but is essential, such as the lotus growing in the marshes. A lotus on its own is definitely beautiful, but it stands out even more when it is in the marshes!:)
Reply:a rose and a lotus; rose have thorns, lotus have none, but they are both beautiful.

What flower represents what month?

thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
What flower represents what month?
Just as each month has a birthstone, each month also has a birth flower. Each birth flower also has a special symbolic meaning that results from the flower’s specific type and color.

January - Carnation

Like the slow beauty of winter, the carnation reveals its color with a subtle grace and rewards close, attentive viewing. The carnation is a rich and fragrant flower, a sensual feast perfect for birthdays during this winter month.

February - Iris

The deep, warm color of the iris foreshadows the luxuries of spring. A February birthday also portends warmth and prosperity, making these two an excellent match. Match a lucky February birthday with this slender, magnificent flower.

March - Daffoldil

The appearance of daffodils in the spring has long been associated with rays of sunshine emanating from the ground, bringing color, comfort, and beauty back to the world. March birthdays also add comfort and beauty to our lives, so celebrate this month with the daffodil’s fragrant sunshine blossom.

April - Daisy

The modest, unassuming beauty of the daisy has a playful, childlike character that brings joy and happiness wherever it arrives. The many colored options of the daisy provide ample opportunity to match this lovely flower to a specific personality. No other flower can match the daisy for pure joy.

May - Lily

The subtle, majestic lily holds its delicate white blossoms snugly between its strong, broad leaves. This flower represents the both the strength and wild beauty in May birthdays. A fresh bouquet of lilies is a magnificent way to send your best, birthday wishes.

June - Rose

June must be the month of love, as it has been paired with the flower of passion, the rose. Roses have many significant meanings depending on their color and the number of flowers in the bouquet. June birthdays are also known for their passion, making June and the rose a perfect match.

July - Larkspur

The long, blossom filled stem of the larkspur has been chosen to represent July because their gorgeous and lush beauty fills summer meadows with an unmistakable color and fragrance. July birthdays are also known for their particular summer radiance.

August - Gladiola

The sword like blossoms of the gladiola are responsible for its name and also for its symbolic meaning of strength of character. August birthdays are also known for a strong sense of character and moral integrity. The gladiola also reminds us that strength of character and integrity can look gorgeous and be full of rich personality.

September - Aster

The dense petal formation of the beautiful aster allows its rich, deep color to radiate through with a lush, almost aquatic texture. This combination makes the aster the flower of magic and transcendence. September, the beginning of Autumn, is also a time of otherworldly transcendence, and September birthdays contain elements of seeing aspects of life often hidden from view.

October - Calendula

The brilliant and unusual calendula represents October birthdays because its broad, colorful flowers follow the path of the sun throughout the day, soaking up all remaining sunlight left in Autumn. October birthdays are also known for being warm, receptive people who are easy going and easy to talk to. Celebrate their one of a kind beauty with the one of a kind calendula.

November - Chrysanthemum

The bright butter yellow glow of the chrysanthemum brings joy, light, and cheer to the dwindling days of November. Chosen because of the cheer and joy November birthdays bring throughout the year, the chrysanthemum’s color and perseverance are a beacon of happiness.

December - Narcissus

The translucent white petals of the narcissus blossom bring the beauty and peace of a fresh snowfall indoors. The grace and sophistication of the narcissus bring a redemptive beauty to poor Narcissus, the mythological figure that fell in love with his own beauty and drowned kissing his reflection in a lake. Now, the narcissus represents peace and the possibility of renewal.

How come pizza delivery boys get tipped and flower delivery boys doesn't?

I mean you pay for you food? and the flowers they send it to you for free. Have you ever noticed this?
How come pizza delivery boys get tipped and flower delivery boys doesn%26#039;t?
Nope never noticed this, I tip both.
Reply:It would be weird to have to tip for the delivery of a gift given to you, whereas you%26#039;re already paying for the pizza.

The sender could tip when he%26#039;s paying for the flowers, which wouldn%26#039;t be weird. Except tips are usually based on service, so tipping before the delivery happened would also be a problem.
Reply:becuase you usually order your own pizza for yourself and flower%26#039;s are delivered to you and I would think that the person that sent the flowers would handle that.
Reply:I don%26#039;t tip flower delivery because I didn%26#039;t request the flowers...I did request the pizza. Our local florists tack on a $2-$4 delivery fee.Our pizza place doesn%26#039;t charge to deliver so I always tip them $2. Also, the pizza place makes the drivers use their own personal vehicle and doesn%26#039;t reimburse expenses, the floral places let the drivers use the company vans and gas and insurance.
Reply:I tip both. I thought everyone did.
Reply:I would say that it%26#039;s because you ordered the pizza, therefore you pay for the tip. Also, the pizza guy/girl usually doesn%26#039;t even get paid minimum wage because he relies on his/her tips.

As with the flowers, there usually is a delivery fee to send flowers to someone, or the flowers are more expensive. This covers the delivery costs, so you don%26#039;t have to tip them. I would be mad if I got flowers as a surprise gift and was expected to tip the delivery guy! I also think that flower stores pay their delivery people at least minimum wage, so they don%26#039;t rely on tips.

Another question to think about is why, oh why, are Americans the only people who tip service workers? I know at some upscale restaurnats in other countries a tip can be expected but for the most part we%26#039;re the only country that tips on a regular basis for sooooo many different services (waiters, bartenders, delivery people, hair dressers, valet drivers, etc...). What gives? I%26#039;d be fine with getting rid of it! ha :) Then again, I don%26#039;t work in a position that recieves tips...computer

What flower does Minnie Mouse wear in her hair in the cartoon 'Steamboat Willie'?

Mickey and Minnie debuted together in Plane Crazy, first released on May 15, 1928. Minnie is invited to join Mickey in the first flight of his aircraft. She accepts the invitation but not his request for a kiss in mid-flight. Mickey eventually forces Minnie into a kiss but this only results in her parachuting out of the plane. This first film depicted Minnie as somewhat resistant to the demanding affection of her potential boyfriend and capable of escaping his grasp.

Saffron flower?

i purchased this at a latin store. it does not look like the fancy stuff. can you explain to me how to use this. is it the same flavor or a whole other ball of wax?
Saffron flower?
As a former chef I have used it before, and it is a different ball of wax, it is a similar in colour but much less intense in flavour.

I used it mainly for the colour, in rice, marinates, soups and sauces. If you do use it I would bloom it, by this I mean place it in a cup with boiling water over it to extract the colour, in general it is not the same but is a good substitute it one way but not in others, but here the cost is the issue.make up

If your could tell a flower she only had the spring to live. Would we have a bunch of worried flowers too?

No, a flower would understand why it was created and that life here is not meant to be eternal. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
If your could tell a flower she only had the spring to live. Would we have a bunch of worried flowers too?
just worried about the nasty weeds around them until they get turned into spiritual compost.
Reply:no, since we are only telling the one flower that she has the spring to live. the rest of the bunch would be ok. :)
Reply:no, because only the one has been given the truth.

Reply:I would rephrase that to say that they have the entire spring to live. Every day is a gift and we should be thankful for it rather than feeling cheated for not getting more.

I%26#039;m sure the flower would be delighted to get to shine for any period of time.

Latoya is correct in that the plant is native to Hawaii. Depending on where you live, you might find it at a local nursery. Try calling around.

Hope this helps.

Is flower vase in a room important ?

The vase can be the accesory in the room and not necasarily the flowers. The vase or glass adds the accent color in the room and you can just put some dried twings and twisted branches in it. You dont have to have flowers in your vases all of the time. I got a nice big white one that is against a dark wall. It looks really good, with some dried grasses and branches when i dont have flowers in it.

Have a good one!
Is flower vase in a room important ?
I think the flowers are more important to the room%26#039;s ambiance than the vase is.
Reply:it is to the flowers
Reply:A decorative flower vase is useless unless it is filled with flowers. Yes a flower vase with flowers enhances the ambience of the room, gives a feeling of freshness and liveliness to the room.
Reply:Not if your allergic to flower pollen (if using real flowers) or dust (if using fake flowers)!

Seriously though, it is not necessary to have a flowers in a room; greenery works nicely as well-if you want plants at all.

And if you do want flowers, you don%26#039;t have to use a vase. You could use something else instead, such as a pretty crystal pitcher, or a brown crock, or a Mason canning jar...the possibilities are limited only by your imagination, personal taste/style, and (if using real flowers) the container%26#039;s ability to hold water.c++

Final velocity unknown.

So what which equation do you use?
A flower pot falls off a window ledge 10.0 m above the ground. Its velocity as it hits the ground is?
u=0,S=10m, a=10m/s^2, v=?

using v^2-u^2=2aS.

v^2=2*10*10

v^2=200

v=14.142 m/s. ANS.

How long have you had the fish? If less than a week I wouldn%26#039;t worry too much honestly. If over that it could be an indication of water quality problems or a potential for disease.

Reply:Flowers represent women in your culture? Wow! That%26#039;s interesting! Nice to learn that...

Anyway, I%26#039;d say Rose is for romantic women. Lily for sensitive women. Magnolia for strong and willful women. Etc.

.
Reply:Have a look at some of the paintings of flowers done by Georgia O%26#039;Keefe. All of her flowers represent women, or at least, um, a certain part of female anatomy.
Reply:Rose would be first, then Lily, then Daisy, yet any assortment of flowers would be ok, Lavender would be good, and now the Lilacs are out, ♫,

Reply:Hi you, women are of different types and so are flowers. In my opinion it is as difficult to find a single flower to represent all women as it would be to find a single woman to represent all women. You know, if one chooses a rose, what type of rose is it again? A white rose is good to compare with a female friend and a red rose is best for a girlfriend or wife. So , different types of women require to be remembered in different species of flowers.

Thank you

Do flower remedies work?

There is zero evidence that they do anything at all. Merely placebo effect.
Do flower remedies work?
Opus is incorrect about there not being any studies. Perhaps he should actually look up the original research before blasting off his ignorant opinions. Report It

Reply:Generally, yes. Especially if you do the proper research for choosing the correct one(s) rather than being %26quot;experimental%26quot; about it. The Bach flower remedies seem quite helpful, and Rescue Remedy can be a real benefit during anxious times.

Your fish has dropsy. This disease is an internal bacterial infection. Maracyn two by Mardel will treat it, but it is pretty much always fatal. This disease almost always develops as a result of poor water conditions. Check for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, and correct any problems before adding the medication. Adding medication to dirty water is never a good idea.fitness

What flower is Thailand famous for?

The flower most commonly found around is the jasmine and lotus flowers. These are used either as garlands or on its own as offerings in temples. In most depiction of Thailand overseas, invariably, the lotus flower is the most common used.

However the national flower is the yellow flame or known locally as rachapruek. Its heavy yellow overhang during blooming season makes it a beautiful tree to behold. Furthermore it rich yellow colour is associated with the Royalty and hence the people deemed suitable as their national symbol.

Wedding flower ideas?

I am planning my wedding for February. My colors are Burgundy, Ivory and black. I know roses will be very highly priced due to V-Day so I am trying to find some alternative that will look good and not cost an arm and a leg. I just want some for my bouquet, his boutaineer (sp?) and to decorated the head table. Any suggestions? Pictures and or websites would be appreciated.
Wedding flower ideas?
I am in the process of planning my wedding and found this site that has been very helpful http://www.freshroses.com/feb.html

Although, I%26#039;m not giving you suggestions on flowers, this site will help you to see the costs of each and they provide a picture of the flower so that you can see if you like them. The prices on this site will be cheaper than what you%26#039;d get from a florist because this is a wholesaler, but you%26#039;ll be able to see what%26#039;s cheaper than roses. If you%26#039;re at all interested in doing your own arrangements, this is a great site to get them from. I ordered the test bunch to see if I was any good at doing my own arranging (I haven%26#039;t a creative bone in my body) and I found that I could do my centerpieces myself for a fraction of the cost by getting vases at Michael%26#039;s and ordering the roses from this site.

Also, Costco does bulk flowers and their pricing stays pretty steady. They%26#039;ll do the arranging for you and ship them to you and you%26#039;d be able to do roses, if that%26#039;s what you really want.

Good luck!
Reply:belive it or not you may be able to pull off the roses. Order them way in advance, if you go through sams club or cosco, you should be fine. They sell the roses in bulk.
Reply:For my wedding we used artifical flowers and it was still gorgeous! I made the bouquets, boutinierres, corsages, everything a few weeks in advanced (and didn%26#039;t have to worry about them dying or having to water them! YAY - less worry before a wedding is always good, rigth!?!)

Plus, I got to keep all of the flowers and make memories of my wedding all over my house!!

You can buy flowers in bulk on ebay for good prices, might take you a bit to find a good deal, but there are some! Also, you can get the forms for the bouquets for really cheap at WalMart or any craft store. Use a glue gun and make sure things are solid in there and call it a day!

OR... if you really wanted real flowers still, carnations smell AMAZING and look pretty, too. If you do want to go that way, just do some research. You might be able to buy in bulk ahead of time from local florists (they would appreciate the business, I%26#039;m sure).

One more thing... if you are superstitious, I would check the flower meanings, too! :) (just to make sure you aren%26#039;t using a %26quot;mean%26quot; flower! lol) http://www.flowersandsense.com/flower_me...

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR WEDDING!!! :)
Reply:If you are planning on using a florist, you should be able to go in and explain what you want. Florists usually mark up the cost because of the retail aspect... not because it costs them more to order them. You should be able to sign a contract stating how much each thing will cost you... and once that is signed... you are locked into that price.

Because of your colors... you can do alot of different things! There are red calla-lillies... which are a deep red color which are gorgeous... but are pricey. Regular Lilies come in a variety of colors and you can use the ivory ones, or scarlett lillies. I saw a gorgeous bouquet of mixed gerbera daisies in yellows, oranges and burgandy!!

February is difficult with the availability of flowers... so you might end up paying alittle more to have them imported.

Silk flowers are amazing and really cost efficient!!! You can go to craft stores and just play around with the different things!!

I%26#039;ve included some websites below with pictures... and some websites that have bulk flowers if you decide to order them and make your bouquets yourself!!! Good Luck!!!
Reply:There is a gorgeous deep burgandy Calla Lilly. They are usually a bit high priced but you could do the mini callas and save money. Call a florist and schedule a meeting. She should be able to show you some pictures of flowers in your colors and within your budget. Good luck.
Reply:i went to a Garden Ridge home store and bought Silk flowers, they looked so good i used yellow roses and dasies with baby%26#039;s breathe. my wedding color was yellow %26amp; white. it is cheaper to make your own and easy to. flowers, ribbon , tuel , pearl picks %26amp; floral tape is all you need
Reply:honestly, EVERY flower is gonna be priced higher in Febuary, not just roses....they all skyrocket. lillies, roses, daisies, all of it goes up to 3 times more! I worked valentines at florists 4 years in a row in addition to the 2 years full time I worked at one, just be prepared to pay more on your flowers.

as far as websites, this one is amazing, its an index of bouquet and decoration sites, lots of variety, certainly you can find something here!

http://www.yourweddingcompany.com/index....
Reply:You should use carnations. They are a steal and look great with baby%26#039;s breath in a colored vase.

I know some people think that carnations are cheap, but think of the money you can save for the honeymoon.
Reply:We had lilies for our wedding. They are beautiful. My husband lost his mother when he was 12. Her name was lily. The flowers were chosen in honor of her. Good luck and I hope you find what your looking for. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding :)
Reply:We chose to use silk flowers! They are inexpensive, look beautiful and we made the arrangements ourselves. Michaels craft store has the bridal bouquet holders so you can make them.

If real flowers are in order, carnations are always beautiful!
Reply:For my wedding we used fake flowers... They look very very nice... No one could tell they were fake... send me an e-mail I will send you pics... If you would like...
Reply:I like red carnations. They are simple but nice. I would try using yahoo or google image to search for some pixs and then take them to your florist and see what they can do. I would also call them and see if you order them now can you get a better rate and pay the lower price.

Good luck and best wishes.
Reply:Roses will be very pricey however you could purchase the artificial ones that look as if they are just watered and dewy to make small bouquets for your bridesmaids and have a fresh bouquet for you and the maid of honor also boutonniere for the groom and best man , a dozen and 1/2 of fresh roses

and a dozen artificial Roses use fresh foliage and greenery in all bouquets
Reply:Mums are pretty and inexpensive. Try the Garnet King China Mum...it is a pretty burgundy. Mix them with Alstroemeria lilies (also inexpensive). Baby%26#039;s Breath is also cheap. See the pictures below. Good luck!
Reply:Silk flowers and real flowers mixed in-this way you get the smell and the inexpensive part of the deal.
Reply:if i have a wedding, i will most likely use fake flowers from the craft store..

but stargazer lilies are beautiful %26amp; smell really nice.. also try regular lilies maybe (since one of your colors is ivory).. carnations are nice, but i think kind of cheap for a wedding.. you can try 1800flowers.com or costco.com for flowers.. also try some local flower shops.. if you order ahead of time, you might be able to get some kind of discount or price break.. good luck!!
Reply:Silks are a very popular choice these days and are so much cheaper than fresh cut flowers, plus you have the ease of going ahead and preparing them instead of having to wait til the last minute to do them. Hobby Lobby and Michael%26#039;s offer a wide variety of great and realistic choices.

But for a fresh cut flower with your color scheme, I think the stargazer lily would cover your bases and the smell would be divine!

I have just finished my florals for my May %26#039;07 wedding and I really loved all the bouquets they had pics of on the Better Homes %26amp; Garden website. They have them catagorized by color and have loads of choices to look at.

Good luck on a beautiful wedding!

My flower bed needs some color. What can I plant now that would give me some color all year?

I live in TX, so something native would be nice. I do not have a green thumb or a lot of money. I just want to run to the store real quick and pick up something pretty that will last a while. These will go in my 2 front beds which get shade in the morning and sun in the late afternoon %26amp; evening.
My flower bed needs some color. What can I plant now that would give me some color all year?
What%26#039;s in my sun/shade beds?

1. Dianthus (sweet william, %26quot;pinks). http://www.rmrp.com/Images/Plants/D/Dian... http://www.flickr.com/photos/dougcwaylet... Come in many colors. Annual, but may return if it seeds or if your winters are mild.

2. Shasta Daisy. http://www.savvygardener.com/photos/imag... Perennial. Spreads. Likes sun/shade mixture and moist soil. Needs frequent watering if ground is dry.

3. Garden Phlox. http://forum.garten-pur.de/attachments/P... Tall plant. Sun/shade mixture. Perennial. Many different colors. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.

I don%26#039;t have creeping phox (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bunchofpant... but understand it is very pretty.

4. Impatiens are annuals.(http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiccked/544... must have shade and moist, fertile soil. They cannot tolerate sun. Mine died of a fungal infection.

5. Petunias. The most popular bedding plant in America. Sun/shade mixture. Many, many colors. May self-seed. http://www.flickr.com/photos/89017356@N0...

They cost very little. I paid $35 for all. Mine are in front of house which faces west. Full evening sun.
Reply:Try lantana they are very drought tolerant,and are native perennial.They come in bright yellow,orange,pink%26amp;whight,and purple.The butterflies love it!!4%26quot; pots are usually about 2.50ea.Rule of thumb,any plant that starts out with the name %26quot;mexican%26quot; usually will be native in texas.Lantana also has a citrus fragrance to it that will detour any pest,like,mosquitoes.It will spread for you ea plant about 3%26#039; wide and not too tall about 2%26#039;.Your garden center can educate you on many different varieties of perinnials at low cost.Most are its the size of container that determines cost.
Reply:most durable and easy to grow would be calle %26quot;impatience%26quot;. As long as they have water they will provide you with a whole aray of colors ... white, purple, pink, light blue, red ... very attractive in a group or large setting.

Plant Species Suitable For Flowering/Fruiting Bonsai

By Jim Robinson (7/16/91)

Any tree or shrub can be grown and styled as bonsai. Flowering perennials- -both shrubs and trees--are suitable for bonsai even chrysanthemums. Plants with small flowers are generally preferable to those with large flowers, but as with most rules, some large flowered plants such as wisteria make great bonsai.

The plants below have been successfully grown or could be successfully grow as flowering and, sometimes fruiting, bonsai.

Common Name Scientific Name

Azaleas Rhododendron sp.

Kurume Rhododendron obtusum ssp.

Satsuki Rhododendron indicum ssp.

Barberry Berberis sp.

Crepe Myrtle Lagerstromis indica

Firethorn Pvracantha sp.

Flowering Cherry Prunus sp.v

Flowering Quince Chaenomeles

Chinese Quince Cydonia sinensis

Fuchsia Fuchsia magellanica

Gooseberry Ribes sp.

Japanese Apricot Prunus mume

Dwarf Pomegranate Punica granatum

Chinquefoil (Potentilla) Potentilla floribunda*

Rockspray Cotoneaster sp.

Snow Rose Serissa foetida

Wild Plum Prunus americana

Winterberry Ilex sp.

Wisteria (Japanese) Wisteria floribunda

*(Carter, Trees and Shrubs of Colorado classifies Potentilla as Pentaphvlloides

Horticulture for Flowering and Fruiting Bonsai

Each species of flowering plants used as bonsai have specific characteristics that require attention. For example, pruning, especially the time for pruning and how to prune is critical for the development of flowers and, sometimes, of fruit. The suggestions given here are general for flowering plants and could need modification for any particular plant.

FERTILIZATION

1. Chemicals. Timing and the appropriate relations of the three major chemicals in fertilizers are both critical.

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K) are the three main ingredients in fertilizers.

The percentage of N, P, and K is given on the label of fertilizers, always in the N-P-K order.

All trace elements, such as iron, manganese, and zinc are Important for the health of all plants.

Young plants can use a balanced fertilization for good growth, for example: 20-20-20, 15-30-15 or even 7-40-6 can be used. It is best to alternate these fertilizers for two reasons. Usually different fertilizers have different carriers and trace elements. By alternating brands and types you can reduce the accumulations of undesirable carrier materials and be better assured that your plants are getting the needed trace elements. On my azaleas I use Peters Acid Plant Food, 21-7-7; cottonseed meal, bone meal and blood meal in the ratio of 2: 1:1; and rape seed cake after blooming and until fall when I switch to a 5-30- 15 fertilizer. In the winter I irrigate with Epson Salts-1 tablespoon to the gallon-once a month.

Organics such as fish emulsion, cottonseed meal, bone meal and blood meal are also very useful in a fertilization schedule. They generally breakdown slowly and are not as high in N, P, and K as the inorganic fertilizers.

Developed bonsai can use lower nitrogen fertilization, e.g., 2-10- 10 in early spring as the buds start to swell.

2. Timing

Fertilize after blooming and start about a month after root pruning. Higher nitrogen is useful in the development of young plants whereas high phosphorous fertilizers are essential for bud formation and flowering. Too much nitrogen contributes to the development of leaf buds rather than flower buds. In general, once buds have become formed, fertilization can cease until after blooms have faded, unless fruit is desired. With azaleas I have found that a rape seed cake is useful over the winter in a cold greenhouse In maintaining good color and has not affected buds or flowers.

Fall feeding is essential for good bud formation.

SOILS

Fast draining moisture retentive soil seems effective for flowing plants. The soil should be from slightly to moderately acid for best absorption of N,P, and K and the trace elements. Most flowering plants do best in a pH of 6.5-7.5, but azaleas need a lower pH, around 5.5. Acidity can be maintained by using leaf mold, bark or peat moss in the mix. I do not recommend peat moss in Colorado, but prefer to acidify with acid plant food, Epson Salts and iron sulfate. I prefer to use lava rock, Terra Green, decomposed granite and bark in my mixes, I rarely use more than about 30% bark now, where earlier I used up to 50 % bark.

LOCATION

Flowering bonsai require full sun for producing the best flowers, with the exception of some azaleas. Sunlight is especially needed for setting flower buds in the fall. Prevent freezing of buds in the spring after they have begun to swell.

WATERING

Each plants watering needs must be learned because of the many variables that affect the need for water. In general, do not sprinkle flowers as many are spotted by this application. Protect from rain and wind to avoid spotting or bruising. Flowers tend to wilt before the leaves.

A flower bed is in the shape of a traingle with one side twice the length?

of the shortest side, and the third side is 18 feet more than the length of the shortest side. Find the dimensions if the perimeter is 178 feet?

A= ? feet(shortest side)

B= ? feet(second side)

C= ? feet(third side)
A flower bed is in the shape of a traingle with one side twice the length?
B=2A, C=A+18, A+B+C = 178.

Substitute 2A for B, and A+18 for C gives:

A + 2A + A+18 = 178,

or 4A+18 = 178, 4A=160, or A=40.

A=40

B=2A=80,

C=A+18=58
Reply:It%26#039;s easy.

Take 178 and subtract 18 = 160

Take the 180 and divide by 4 = 40

40 is the shortest side

40x2 = 80 is the longest side

40+18 = 58 is the last side

40+80+58 = 178

A=40

B=58

C=80
Reply:side 1, 2, 3= a,b,c (note, not the same as A,B,C)

one side twice the length of shortest: b = 2a

third side c , 18 ft more than shortest: c =a+ 18

perimeter a + b+ c = 178

a + (2a) + (a+18)= 178

4a +18 = 178

4a = 160

a = 40

with a -40, b = 80 , c = 58

so, shortest, a, is A = 40, B = 58, C = 80
