Which flower means something special to you?

Roses . . .

All though I am allergic to them they carry special meaning to me because my grandmother loved them. She had rose bushes at every corner of her house. Several in other areas of her yard as well. She had a well formed arbor of roses she called Mr. Lincoln's across her walkway to the front door.

She even had this row of white rose bushes along her driveway that nearly broke my 10 yr old back to plant for her. We planted them to resemble a rose garden she saw in a magazine. Anyone else would have been disappointed when they started blooming pink one year because there were red roses nearby and the bees cross pollenated them. Not my grandmother she got excited every season to see what "shade" they'd be this year.

One of her favorite activities was to go out and prune them. She's also pluck off new buds early so she'd get a fuller crop of roses. She's get a beautiful glow from the sun each summer from tending to her flowers.

If she ever got pricked by the thorns on her rose bushes she'd smile and say "Kissed by a rose."

I sure do miss her!! Thanks for letting me share my memories of her.
Which flower means something special to you?
let me tell you this storie one time when i was in hong kong a guy stoped me and said for me to write down my favouite flower and number on a peace of paper he took
Reply:Yellow roses - my grandfather always bought them for my nan. Makes me think of love much more than red roses.
Reply:rose=peace
Reply:those little blue flowers which no one looks at them here..because they are too small.maybe they dont call them even flowers!...to me they are the most beautiful cuz in my village they were the only flowers which grew and they didn't stay long cuz the sun would burn them after about15 days...I love them so much cuz when ever I look at them i remember my childhood feelings..i dont know what they are called in English
Reply:any kind, mom my loves flowers and we have like 7 gardens, and they all remind me of my loving mommy
Reply:The Rose of Sharon. My wife's name is Sharon.
Reply:snow drops,Then start of spring.
Reply:gladioulus - reminds me of my grandmother, that was her favorite flower.
Reply:Mummy said i was not to show my "special flower" to any one until i was old enough to appreciate it and understand how powerful it is!! so i suppose i am special to myself! x
Reply:Violets. When I was first dating my now husband, we were walking past a flower shop, and I mentioned that I loved flowers but couldn't stand it when they wilted and died. So he bought me a potted violet rather than buying me cut flowers.
Reply:Bluebells - happy memories from childhood.
Reply:Lotus : It always encourages me to be happy even in problematic situations, sometimes it also reminds me to be myself...not getting carried away by others around me...just like the lotus which beautifully shines in the midst of a dirty pond.

may be the pond itself looks beautiful because the lotus's presence!...
Reply:Petunias, Begonias. My grandparents used to grow them.
Reply:Daisies and buttercups (actually, are these flowers or weeds?? Not sure!) Anyway,

Daisies cos it reminds me of making daisy chains when i was little, and buttercups cos that also reminds me of being a child, when you used to put it under someones chin to see if they like butter or not.

And dandelions (again a weed rather than a flower) cos i used to make wishes on them, blow on them and let them float up into the air when i was young.

Starting to think I have issues bout wanting to be a child again, what a thought provoking question!
Reply:A white rose as this means pure love not the red rose as most people think. a red rose is for passion. I'm a florist so Ive learnt this since my training. i also think that they are beautiful my favourite.
Reply:I love white carnations...
Reply:Wholemeal
Reply:The Manx Rose.

I have an elderly friend who is like a Grandmother to me,she is dying of a muscle wasting disease %26amp; has Parkinsons too,I spent a lot of time with her in recent years looking after her,so I had a Manx Rose tattooed on my ankle for her because she was born on The Isle Of Man,she picked it and loves my tattoo. It makes me think of her everytime I look at it.

Reply:Blue Hyacinths.

My hubby brought a blue hyacinth to the hospital after the birth of our first son, we were so hard up at the time it was the only thing he could afford, he had to walk 5 miles to the hospital as he didn't drive back then and the flower money was his bus fare, he couldn't afford both. All the other women had huge bouquets but my hyacinth outlived all of them!!
